The MMA world was a mix of shocked and confused upon hearing that reigning featherweight champ and promotional loud-mouth Conor McGregor was no longer the UFC featherweight champion. To this day there remains the argument as to exactly how that came to be. Some say Conor was stripped of his title, some say he relinquished his title. If there is one thing all of us speculators can agree on, its that it probably had something to do with him fighting at lightweight and welterweight while ignoring his obligations as the featherweight champion (i.e. defending that belt). But aside from the title debacle, rumors have been swirling for awhile now about a potential cross-over super fight between McGregor and boxing’s biggest star, Floyd Mayweather jr. The rumor received more fire after news broke that McGregor was issued a boxing license in California, sparking more speculation as to if we would actually see this super fight come to fruition. But during an interview with Fight Hype, Floyd says McGregor is all talk:
Man I don’t fight in California, What did he get a license in California for? He’s blowing smoke up everybody’s a**. He don’t really wanna fight because I went to his boss. He don’t want to fight, he’s just doing that to keep his name alive, to stay relevant. He’s doing that to build his followers. He’s smart.
Floyd took more shots at McGregor during an instagram live session:
I don’t give a f**k what night it was, I ain’t never takin’ no L. I’m f**king McGregor up too. Punk a** McGregor, I’m gonna slap the s**t out of McGregor when I see him.
Mayweather makes a valid point about Mcgregor’s license. Floyd has not fought outside of Las Vegas in 11 years, so why would Conor get licensed in California if he was hoping for a fight with Floyd?
